Dozens of federal, state, county and municipal officials came together Friday to celebrate the future home of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s headquarters in Prince George’s County.

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) led a nearly 90-minute celebratory press conference during which a dozen elected officials praised the General Services Administration’s decision Wednesday to select the city of Greenbelt as the new home for the bureau’s 7,500 employees.

After more than a decade of political jockeying between Virginia and Maryland over the future headquarters of the FBI, the General Service Administration announced Greenbelt in Prince George’s County secured the bid.

The contentious debate over a new FBI headquarters intensified further Thursday as the director said he was concerned about a “potential conflict of interest” in the site selection and the White House defended the process as “fair and transparent.” But a senator said there a clear need for a federal investigation.

After years of back-and-forth and speculation about where the new FBI headquarters will be located, the General Services Administration has confirmed Wednesday that a site in Greenbelt, Maryland, has been selected.
