H.R. 1, The One Big Ugly Bill

The Republican budget and H.R. 1, the One Big Ugly Bill, include abysmal policy decisions that take our nation backward. By cutting critical social programs, reversing our achievements to combat climate change, and making education less affordable, H.R. 1 proves that Republican are not working for you but for their billionaire friends.
I proudly voted against H.R. 1 as well as every iteration of a MAGA budget that has come to the House floor in the 119th Congress. Until my Republican colleagues restore Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, science funding, public media, foreign aid, and America’s great diversity, they will not earn by vote.
The scope of H.R. 1’s impact can be hard to imagine. My team and I have been working tirelessly to find out who in our district will be impacted by this bill. Right now, experts predict that:
- 30,000 Prince George’s (PG) County Residents will lose Medicaid coverage.
- 8,000 families in Maryland’s Fourth Congressional District will lose SNAP coverage.
- Cumulative GDP in Maryland will shrink by $18 billion over the next 10 years.
- Thousands of Marylanders will lose affordable housing funding due to American Rescue Plan and Inflation Reduction Act clawbacks.
These are devastating consequences for our community. Know that as your voice in Congress, I will continue to advocate for families in our district to have the support they need from their government. This fight is not over. I will work everyday with my Democratic colleagues in Congress to safeguard essential government benefits and services.
