Service Academy Nominations
Military service academies are higher education institution that prepares candidates for service in the officer corps of our nation's military services. Members of Congress may nominate candidates for appointment to four of the five U.S. service academies: U.S. Military Academy at West Point (USMA), U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA).
Application available: April
Application Deadline: October
Interviews: November. Nominations announced in December.
It is in your best interest to request a nomination through all sources available to you: Presidential, Vice Presidential, Senatorial, and Congressional. For detailed academy-specific requirements, please consult the Admissions Office of your chosen service academies.
In addition to submitting a complete nomination application to my office, applicants must directly contact their respective service academy to open an admissions file. A nomination cannot be awarded unless an admissions file has been opened with each chosen academy. Applicants are also strongly encouraged to apply to more than one service academy. For more information from my office, contact serviceacademyMD04@mail.house.gov.
The honor of attending a service academy comes with the obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.
