Our nation was built on the contributions of immigrants. I am dedicated to ensuring that all immigrants have the opportunity to pursue the American dream. It is a matter of this country’s history and tradition to welcome immigrants, particularly those seeking asylum because their well-being is under threat, and we must stay committed to that effort. I am dedicated to ensuring that all immigrants have the opportunity to pursue the American dream.
Securing stable housing is a critical step in reducing poverty. I have supported increased access to affordable housing through programs that have repaired 72,600 homes, empowered more than 18,800 new homeowners, and assisted 105,253 families with affordable housing counseling to date. As a member of the Caucus on Homelessness, I remain committed to ensuring everyone has access to affordable housing.
Transit services–from the metro system to roadways to sidewalks and everything in between–are essential for connecting people to their job, school, and family. Being such an integral part of people’s lives, transit services should be reliable and address the needs of the communities they serve. A federal operations funding program would fill existing gaps by providing a stable source of funding for transit agencies to cover the costs of running their systems.
From my time as a prosecutor and Prince George’s County State’s Attorney, I know that criminal justice and public safety are required to make our society work for everyone.
Combating gun violence remains a central pillar of my legislative agenda. Across the country–and in Prince George’s County–gun violence continues to claim far too many lives. In 2024 alone, approximately 46,728 people died from gun violence. And our county has experienced some of the highest rates of firearm-related homicides in the state of Maryland. Over 100 people in Prince George’s County lost their lives to gun violence in 2024, with many more injured or traumatized. The burden of this crisis falls disproportionately on young people and communities of color.
I am proud to represent over 46,000 federal workers in Maryland’s Fourth Congressional District. Over the past few months, the Trump administration has issued extreme executive orders and House Republicans have passed an irresponsible rescissions package that directly impacts these civil servants. My team and I are working tirelessly to understand what these executive orders mean for my constituents. Early estimates show that over 4,000 federal workers have already been fired or pushed out of their positions in our district.
The Republican budget and H.R. 1, the One Big Ugly Bill, include abysmal policy decisions that take our nation backward. By cutting critical social programs, reversing our achievements to combat climate change, and making education less affordable, H.R. 1 proves that Republican are not working for you but for their billionaire friends.
