Transportation & Infrastructure

Transit services–from the metro system to roadways to sidewalks and everything in between–are essential for connecting people to their job, school, and family. Being such an integral part of people’s lives, transit services should be reliable and address the needs of the communities they serve. A federal operations funding program would fill existing gaps by providing a stable source of funding for transit agencies to cover the costs of running their systems. I will continue to work with my colleagues in Congress to ensure our transit services are fully funded and provide innovative solutions that address increased urbanization and climate change.

WMATA and the Prince George’s County Purple Line

I am frustrated by the Trump administration’s actions towards Washington, D.C.’s municipal budget and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). Republicans in Congress are holding $1 billion in D.C. funding hostage, including up to $200 million in federal funding that the metro system relies on. Marylanders, especially those in our district, depend on the metro system to get where they need to go. Republicans in Congress should stop exploiting D.C.’s lack of statehood and making life more difficult for all of us. As WMATA continues to collaborate with the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) on the construction of the Purple Line–a landmark project to better connect Prince George’s County–I will continue to fight for the metro to be fully funded to meet the needs of my constituents.

Relevant Legislative

I am proud to have either sponsored or co-sponsored the following legislation, and I will work tirelessly towards passing this legislation in the 119th Congress.

H.R. 3449, the Stronger Communities Through Better Transit Act, fills existing funding gaps by providing a stable source of funding for transit agencies to cover the costs of running their systems;

H.R. 51, the Washington, D.C. Admissions Act, grants Washington, D.C. the statehood it rightly deserves.

Keeping our communities safe and connected is the bedrock of good governance and good living. As I work to invest in the next generation of infrastructure and public transportation projects, I will fight for accessibility, safety, and expansion at every turn.

Community Engagement and Public Education

Our roadways, bike paths, and sidewalks connect us everywhere. That is why I:

The government should work for everyone. Whether I am in Congress crafting nationwide legislation or working with local leaders to make sure the sidewalk is safe and our neighborhoods remain beautiful, I will never lose sight of who I work for: my neighbors in Maryland’s Fourth Congressional District.
