Congressman Ivey's Statement on the Retirement Announcement of Congressman John Sarbanes

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Glenn Ivey issued the following statement after Congressman John Sarbanes announced he would not seek another term in the House of Representatives:
For nine terms, Congressman John Sarbanes has been a champion for the people of Maryland and one of the fiercest fighters for fair and free elections.
As a US Representative, John has been the point man on democratic reforms and voting rights legislation, including the Freedom to Vote Act and the For the People Act.
Like his father before him, Congressman Sarbanes has always been committed to calling out government corruption and waste. He has strengthened access to the ballot box for everyday people. His impact will last long after he leaves the House of Representatives. Through his work on the Energy and Commerce Committee, he has been at the vanguard of protecting our national eco-treasure, the Chesapeake Bay. In this committee he has worked to lower drug prices for our seniors and so much more.
Rep. Sarbanes is the consummate public servant. Marylanders and all who cherish our democracy will miss him after his final term. But I know, while he will be leaving public office, he won’t be leaving public service, and I wish him and his family the best as he moves on to other endeavors.
