WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), has named Congressman Glenn F. Ivey to the House Ethics Committee. He is the first freshman member to be appointed.
“This is an exciting appointment. I am humbled and honored to be named to the Committee on Ethics. We must continue to assure the public that we are doing the work of governing in a transparent and ethical way. I will play my part to show our constituents that Members of Congress are held to the high standard of trust bestowed upon us by the electorate. I will bring my years of experience in the law as a prosecutor, defense and civil law attorney to bear in our work. I am ready to get started,” said Rep. Glenn Ivey.
The Committee on Ethics is tasked with interpreting and enforcing the House's ethics rules. The Committee has sole jurisdiction over the interpretation of the Code of Official Conduct, which governs the acts of House Members, officers, and employees. The Committee is the only standing House committee with equal numbers of Democratic and Republican members. The Committee's staff is required by rule to be professional and nonpartisan.
