WASHINGTON, D.C.— Today, Congressman Glenn Ivey (MD-04) and Congressman Seth Magaziner (RI-02) led a letter joined by several of their House Democratic colleagues to the Senate Judiciary Committee to oppose the nomination of Edward R. Martin, Jr. as U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.
“Ed Martin has demonstrated time and again that in addition to not having the necessary experience as a prosecutor, he is more interested in picking political fights than enforcing our nation’s laws. His nomination must be opposed,” said Congressman Glenn Ivey. “I thank Congressman Seth Magaziner and our House Democratic colleagues in leading this important letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee.”
“The job of a U.S. Attorney is to uphold the law, not serve a president’s political agenda. Edward Martin has shown he’s more interested in protecting Trump and his allies than delivering justice, and the Senate must reject his nomination,” said Congressman Seth Magaziner.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, which is the largest U.S. Attorney’s office in the nation, handles a high volume of trials and appeals. It also plays a unique role as the local prosecutor for the District of Columbia. Edward Martin currently serves as the interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. His nomination is expected to be considered in the Senate Judiciary Committee in the coming weeks.
