Congressman Ivey's Statement on the State of the Union

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Glenn Ivey, MD-04, released the below statement regarding President Biden’s State of the Union address to Congress:
“Building bridges is more than a metaphor. It is a reality under President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law,” said Rep. Glenn Ivey, MD-04.
“In last year’s State of the Union address, the President laid out a plan to help create American jobs, invest in American manufacturing, and lower healthcare costs for families. Democrats in Congress helped him achieve these goals by passing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the CHIPS & Science Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act.
“Last night, the President emphasized how each of these bills are strengthening our economic prospects and, as he puts it, restoring the soul of our country. In just two years under President Biden’s leadership, Democrats created more than 12 million jobs, some 800,000 plus in manufacturing, and reduced the unemployment rate to 3.4% -- its lowest level in over 50 years.
“While we have much to be happy about, there is more work to do. While MAGA Republicans are focused on divisive tactics, showboat politics, and hateful culture wars, my congressional colleagues and I are focused on the future. Like President Biden, we are rolling up our sleeves and working for the American people. We are striving to curb costs, protect our neighborhoods, and foster jobs and educational opportunities so every American has the chance to thrive.
“In a divided Congress with a slim Republican majority in the House and an even closer margin for Democrats in the Senate, nothing will get done without some bipartisanship. I look forward to joining my colleagues who, with the Biden Administration, seek to break the gridlock in Washington. Together, we will deliver no-nonsense solutions to our nation’s most challenging problems, including reforming the police in the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, reducing gun violence, and protecting our children and community from fentanyl and other dangerous drugs,” concluded Rep. Glenn Ivey.
