Congressman Ivey Statement on GOP Tax Scam

Congressman Glenn Ivey provided the following statement on the Republican budget bill: 

After 29 straight hours of debate, much of it in the dead of night and shielded from the public eye, House Republicans rammed through their big, ugly budget bill. This process was rushed, reckless, and deliberately hidden from the American people. But House Democrats stood their ground. We fought around the clock to expose what this bill really means for working families.

Let’s be clear: this bill is a gift to the ultra-wealthy, paid for on the backs of everyday Americans. It guts Medicaid, strips nutrition assistance, and slashes funding for education, housing, and childcare. It will leave millions without health coverage, put food security at risk, and balloon our national debt. All this pain inflicted upon the American people just to pay for another round of billionaire tax cuts.

These priorities are not just misguided—they’re immoral. We need a budget that reflects our values, invests in our communities, and protects the most vulnerable, not one that sacrifices lives and livelihoods for political gain.

The American people are watching. They will not stand for this assault on healthcare, economic security, and basic human dignity. House Democrats will continue fighting for a fair, responsible budget that puts working families first.
