Congressman Ivey Provides Statement on House Republicans' Partisan Continuing Resolution

March 12, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C.— Congressman Glenn Ivey provides the following statement on why he cannot in good conscience support the House Republicans' partisan Continuing Resolution:

"I do not take the potential impacts of a government shutdown lightly. But, as the Congressman for Maryland’s Fourth Congressional District, I must always act with the best interest of my constituents in mind. That is why I cannot in good conscience support the House Republicans’ partisan Continuing Resolution, which will further empower Trump and Musk to take a chainsaw to the federal workforce and critical government services, as well as set the stage for massive tax cuts for billionaires and reckless economic policies. This includes:

  • Jeopardizing Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid
  • Cutting nearly $23 billion in funds for services for veterans exposed to burn pits and other toxic substances
  • Forcing nearly 32,000 evictions
  • Cutting research for Alzheimer’s, cancer, and other health conditions
  • Failing to fully fund food assistance programs

"Republicans should abandon their partisan approach and work with Democrats to ensure our federal government has the funding needed to effectively serve the American people. This Republican plan fails to do so.

"For these reasons, I will vote no."
