WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Glenn Ivey (MD-04) joined his colleagues in issuing a letter to the Senate Committee on the Judiciary to express concerns about the upcoming confirmation vote of Kash Patel to lead the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

“The FBI Director is one of the most important positions in the federal government, entrusted with ensuring the safety of the American people. As such, the Director must be committed to the rule of law over partisan politics,” said Congressman Glenn Ivey. “I join my colleagues in respectfully requesting that our Senate Judiciary colleagues on both sides of the aisle reject this unqualified and extreme nominee.”

“Kash Patel as FBI Director would pose a threat to law and order in America,” said Congressman Seth Moulton (MA-06). This is someone who clearly views our Justice system not as a system to be respected, but one to be undermined and weaponized. The Senate should come together to reject his nomination immediately."

“As I’ve said before, character counts and every organization takes its behavioral cues from the leader,” said Congressman John Garamendi (CA-08). Kash Patel’s character and conspiratorial views will morph the Federal Bureau of Investigation into a vehicle that seeks revenge and retribution against Donald Trump’s enemies, rather than one that upholds the law. Patel is already on the warpath to purge career civil servants at the FBI, and I fear that the U.S.’s premier law enforcement agency will become yet another means to rig the legal system to turn a blind eye to Trump and Elon Musk’s conflicts of interest. I call on all members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, especially Republicans, to completely reject Kash Patel’s nomination to be director of the FBI.”

Congressman Ivey’s letter garnered the support of 30 cosigners including: Don Beyer (VA-08), Brendan Boyle (PA-02), Julia Brownley (CA-26), Andre Carson (IN-07), Emanuel Cleaver (MO-05), Steve Cohen (TN-09), Jasmine Crockett (TX-30), Suzan DelBene (WA-01), Laura Friedman (CA-30), John Garamendi (CA-08), Dan Goldman (NY-10), Al Green (TX-09), Raul Grijalva (AZ-07), Hank Johnson (GA-04), Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37), Seth Magaziner (RI-02), April McClain Delaney (MD-06), Jennifer McClellan (VA-04), Seth Moulton (MA-06), Kevin Mullin (CA-15), Jerrold Nadler (NY-12), Eleanor Holmes Norton (DC-At Large), Mark Pocan (WI-02), Mike Quigley (IL-05), Eric Swalwell (CA-14), Shri Thanedar (MI-13), Dina Titus (NV-01), Norma Torres (CA-35), Nydia Velazquez (NY-07).
