Press Conference on Three-Year Anniversary of January 6 Attack
January 5, 2024
“Tomorrow is going to be a solemn day,” said former U.S. Capitol Police Sgt. Aquilino Gonell during the start of his remarks at a news conference outside of the U.S. Capitol marking the three-year anniversary of the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. He said it was his duty on that day “to defend the Capitol,” and he criticized House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) for ordering the blurring out of the faces of rioters in the videos of the January 6 attack to protect them from prosecution by the Justice Department. Others delivering remarks were representatives from the Not Above the Law Coalition (NALC), including Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), Del. Eleanor Norton Holmes (D-DC), and Rep. Glenn Ivey (D-MD).
