Listen: The turmoil in Congress is keeping newly elected local representatives from doing their work

The delay to elect a speaker for the House of Representatives has brought the lower chamber to a standstill. Newly elected and re-elected members are unable to govern: bills cannot be debated or passed, members cannot attend intelligence briefings because they do not have security clearance and the list goes on.

WAMU’s Esther Ciammachilli speaks with newly elected Congressman Glenn Ivey, who represents Maryland’s 4th district. He shares his thoughts on the speakership fiasco and how it’s affecting his ability to serve his constituents.
