Congressman Ivey's Statement on Shooting of Five People in Bladensburg, Maryland

What used to be a fist fight is now a gun fight. Today’s shooting is the result of too many guns on the street and too much bravado and bluster. These victims of violence were senselessly shot in Bladensburg after attending a funeral. Five wounded with 3 in critical condition is simply unacceptable. My heart hurts for these families experiencing this painful incident today. As a community, we must go beyond thoughts and prayers as we seek solutions to the plague of gun violence. We need common sense gun reform. We need more mental-health treatment. We need more dispute-resolution programs. Community policing, faith leaders and politicians of every stripe must take proactive steps to stop the shootings. And I will continue to fight for more resources devoted to intervention and prevention programs for our youth and increased law enforcement when it comes to illegal guns. If you have any more information on this shooting, please contact police.
